DETROIT

DESIGN GAMES ABOUT REAL-WORLD ISSUES AFFECTING YOUR COMMUNITY

The G4C Student Challenge is a citywide competition that invites middle and high school students in Detroit and the greater metro area to create games about issues impacting their communities.
 
The 2019 competition is closed for submissions and games are currently currently being reviewed by panels of expert jurors. All competitors are invited to attend the competition Awards Ceremony in Detroit (date/location to be announced soon on the events page!)
 
Students will be notified about their standing in the competition during the month of May.

CHALLENGE TIMELINE

JULY 2018

TEACHER APPLICATIONS OPEN

Detroit teachers can apply for PD in game design and to join the Detroit Student Challenge cohort.

AUGUST 2018

TEACHERS APPLICATIONS CLOSE

Deadline to submit Teacher applications in September 13, 2018.

SEPTEMBER 2018

TEACHER PD

20+ new educators receive 2 days of PD in how to teach game design and integrate the Serious Game Design curriculum into their class(es).

Date:  September 14 and 15 / Location: TechTown.

FALL 2018

CHALLENGE LAUNCH (OCTOBER)

Game design courses launch in cohort schools.

WINTER 2018

STUDENT COMPETITION PORTAL OPENS (FEB 1)

Students can submit original digital games to the Student Challenge competition.

SPRING 2019

COMPETITION DEADLINE & JURY PROCESS (APRIL 18)

Deadline for students to submit games.

Games are evaluated through a rigorous jury process.

JUNE 2019

AWARDS CEREMONY & PRIZES

Winners are announced and prizes awarded during an awards ceremony.

All finalists are invited to demo their games as part of an Awards Showcase.
