Games for Change and Half the Sky games on Kenya's NTV

Right on the heels of our latest Half the Sky games update, comes another straight from Kenya.

Through the financial support of CBA WorldView, our team (together with a game designer and a film crew) had the opportunity to travel to East Africa, and test the Half the Sky mobile games.  This is part of CBA WorldView’s commitment to supporting new media and digital games, and will highlight how games could serve as means to tackle international development issues.
More importantly, it will result in a short 8-10 minute documentary on how the games are perceived by their audiences in local communities.

Our team, headed by Games for Change Co-President, Michelle Byrd, visited community centers, schools and medical clinics in the Nairobi area sharing the latest builds of the Half the Sky mobile games, developed with Mudlark from the UK and E-Line Media.

The unique trip was recently picked up by NTV Kenya, one of the country’s leading television stations:

This on the ground testing is essential to improve and tweak the localized versions of the games before they are officially released in the following weeks. When the final versions are ready, players in India, Kenya and Tanzania will be able to get them on feature phones in several app stores, or through our NGO partners and their programs.

We’ll have more details in the weeks to come…

The development and distribution of the games are funded by USAID, under the FHI 360-managed C-Change Project.
