Choosing My Way
Respond to opportunities and challenges after resettlement in the U.S.
In Choosing My Way, refugees and other newcomer players decide how to respond to opportunities and challenges that arise after resettlement in the U.S. Players choose goals, collect resources, and respond to situations that change every game. Players may focus on trying to get a high score or on completing the goals that are most important to them.
Players do not “win” or “lose.” Instead, they receive a score and are shown the goals they completed. The game encourages experimentation, so that players can reflect on the results of different choices made during the game.
Choosing My Way is targeted towards refugees and new immigrants with some English proficiency who want to learn about life in the U.S. through game play. The game is also designed for orientation providers and educators to use with small groups, facilitating reflection and discussion about available choices and decision making.
