As part of a special season of programs about the increasing use of violence and weapons by young people on UK streets, Dead Ends is a 3D game that aims to raise awareness by letting people play on both sides of the law.
As Keith Wilcox, a new gang recruit, or Detective Jameson, an investigative officer, players move through the consequences of street crime. Multimedia education and outreach organization, RollingSound, produced the game with the feedback of young people from all over London. Founded in 2003, RollingSound seeks to engage youth through creative multimedia courses that reflect their lifestyle and culture. Young people were involved in storyboarding, scripting, acting, animating, and testing the game (more here and in the documentary on the making of the game.)
Notably, the Disarming Britain website neatly integrates the game along side a documentary, tv drama, blog, social network group, and other text information covering the issue of street violence and offering a space for conversation.
