Games for Change Makes Initial Contact with Young Central American Leaders

Posted by Elena Haliczer on 06-05-08

Games for Change presented last week at a youth leadership summit in Guatemala, called “Leaders of the Present: Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement in Central America” hosted by the Project on Justice in Times of Transition. It was a meeting of minds among youth leaders in Central America with their older, mentor counterparts. Our panel, “Creative Tools for Making a Difference” was well received and we were asked to follow up with an impromptu workshop on social issue games and how the participants could get involved in creating them by getting involved in our up-coming project-focused social network “CampG4C”.

After the workshop, which we were all loath to end, there was a gratifying surge of interest from many individuals from the lideres’ (leaders’) group, and from several of the mentors represented. We know our connection to the Lideres del Presente will continue as we are now co-administrators of their website and web presence, and are very excited to see what games come out of this new community. You can find out more about the Lideres del Presente at their website http://www.lideresdelpresente.org and also check their organization page out on Facebook to see the CNN coverage and photos from the event. We hope to see more from these leaders in the future and wish them the best as they make positive change their region.
