Future Plans
The next version will include more meaningful interactions, an expanded board game (including a clear distinction between streets and alleyways) and more visuals. Localization, taking into account the ways different societies react to homeless people, will also be added, as will a choice of characters (with different strengths, weaknesses and backstories). Other suggestions are welcome! If you’re interested in adapting it to your own purposes or improving the code, please email me at mail@homelessgame.net.

Purpose

I created this game for a graduate-level course on game design I took at the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University*. The intent of the game (and the associated survey) is to raise awareness of the situation faced by the homeless, as well as to aid in my research into the effectiveness of so-called “serious” videogames.
