Games for Change (G4C) provides support, visibility and shared resources to organizations and individuals using digital games for social change. This is the primary community of practice for those interested in making digital games about the most pressing issues of our day, from poverty to race and the environment. We are the social change/social issues branch of the Serious Games Initiative.

Gaming on The New York Times

Imagine the possibilities if games for change begin complementing the nation’s paper of record.

Persuasive Game’s Ian Bogost blogs about a new publishing partnership with The New York Times.  The newsgames will appear on the NYT’s op-ed page as editorial content.  The first game, Food Import Folly, (unfortunately only open to TimesSelect subscribers) lets players experience the limitations of FDA inspections on food imports.  Will this match provide games with greater reach and credibility?  Will this link provide an evolving press greater engagement with their audience?  It would have been interesting to see the response a game like Darfur is Dying would have generated when paired next to one of Kristof’s editorials.
