Games for Change (G4C) provides support, visibility and shared resources to organizations and individuals using digital games for social change. This is the primary community of practice for those interested in making digital games about the most pressing issues of our day, from poverty to race and the environment. We are the social change/social issues branch of the Serious Games Initiative.

Diverse participants filled the two day festival—from educators, game designers, nonprofits, and academics to writers like Clive Thompson and private companies like Microsoft and MTVU.  The present and future of how games can make a positive impact on society was examined in the physical world and mixed reality via Second Life.

Ian Bogost of Water Cooler Games has a pretty detailed transcription of Day 1’s panels (Conversation with Alan Gershenfeld & Chris Melissinos; Virtual Activism; Market Sector Impact; Serious Games & Games for Change then and now; Where are all the good Games for Change?) and Day 2’s panels (Funding perspectives; Games, Civic Education, and Engagement; Gaming 21st Century Play; Strategies for an Ecology of Change).

Beth Kanter, a festival moderator, has brief video interviews with Chris Melissinos (Sun’s Chief Gaming Officer) ,the teen panel, and writer Clive Thompson.

Gene Koo, a Fellow at Berkman, has text and audio recordings on his blog.
