Customer Demand for “Do-Good” Games?
Posted by Hsing Wei on 11-28-07A small protest against violent video games, outside a Portland Toy ‘R’ Us store, simultaneously rallied for alternative games.
The news coverage sparked interesting conversation in the G4C community as members noticed that the alternative games on the protestor’s pickets were all games for change—Squeezed, A Force More Powerful, PeaceMaker, Pax Warrior and the Organizing Game. As one member noted, “The mainstream industry has powerful organizations to speak for itself (like ESA) and serious marketing budgets to promote its messages. We have a small community that in relatively short time and with limited budgets created some games that became icons / symbols in this public debate.”
