Description: A new breed of digital games had the potential to improve our efficacy on issues ranging from environmental sustainability to racial justice and poverty alleviation. Using current games as case studies, this paper lays the groundwork for three topics essential to understanding and growing this field: (1) a basic needs framework for understanding how games can serve organizations; (2) several distinct benefits of games for social change; and (3) recommendations on what should be done to shape this sector.
