Director of Communication, Women, Girls & Population, United Nations Foundation
Janet Riessman joined the Foundation in February 2012 as Communications Director, Women & Population. In her role, Janet is responsible for creating and implementing the strategic communications efforts for the UN Foundation’s Women & Population programs, and assisting with overall UN Foundation communications efforts, including: working with the Program Director and public affairs team to develop, implement and manage strategic communications plans, developing relationships with key national and international media focused on program areas, and supporting the Vice President of Public Relations and Communications in the managing of overall Foundation communication efforts. Prior to joining the Foundation, Janet was the Strategic Communications Consultant for non-profit organizations focusing on women’s health, consumer protection, and legal services for low-income families and children.
Previously, Janet was the Director of Communications for the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals, an accredited professional medical association focusing on health care provider continuing education. While there, she oversaw and directed public relations, media relations, marketing, memberships, policy/advocacy, web-based activities, and web site and social media strategies. Janet holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
