Come Out & Play Festival with Games for Change has awarded the Real-World Games for Change design challenge to:

Suzanne Kirkpatrick, Creator & Lead Game Designer
Nien Lam, Developer & Game Designer
Jamie Lin, Interaction & Game Designer

The designers won $5,000 and an opportunity to run their game in lower Manhattan. Their winning entry, “Commons,” is a game for urban communities to improve their city through citizen stewardship. This newly commissioned outdoor game will kick-off the 8th Annual Games for Change Festival. Among dozens of submissions to the competition, ”Commons” was selected for its game mechanic that drives players to leave an actual positive change on the physical environment where the game will be played.

On Sunday, June 19th, players will scour lower-Manhattan and compete to leave the best suggestions for city improvements, building up group consensus as they play. This event is open to the general public. The designers will present their findings from the game during the Festival on Tuesday, June 21.

The game will be featured in this summer’s brand new Come Out & Play Summer Series of street games running in downtown Manhattan as part of the River to River Festival.

Full details on the game, its rules, location, and time can be found here.
